National Vocational Technology Teacher of the Year Award

Air Force Recognizes Outstanding Technology Education Teacher

For the ninth year in a row the Air Force has recognized one high school teacher as the Technology Education Teacher of the year. Mr. Charles Vann, a metals technology education teacher from Appling County High School in Baxley, Ga., has been selected for the 2008-2009 school year. Mr. Vann was selected from a field of more than 30,000 high school technology education teachers who participate in Technology Education, a shop- safety program produced by Student Aware Communications, Inc. Gainesville, Fla.

Mr. Vann was presented a plaque, engraved pen, and an engraved book clock to commemorate this distinction in a ceremony at the high school on May 5, 2008.

"Mr. Vann epitomizes the educational background, commitment and dedication of technology education teachers nation wide," said Col. Mike Brice, the 367th Air Force Recruiting Group commander. "His involvement in the community, commitment to his students, and other teaching accomplishments distinguish him as a truly outstanding teacher."

His students first nominated Mr. Vann for an outstanding Teacher Award at StudentAware's Web site for technology education students and teachers, WWW.teched101.com. Once selected as one of the 250 Outstanding Teacher award recipients nationwide, he received a laser engraved plaque and engraved multi-tool. Then the principle for the Appling County High School, Phillip Murphy, further nominated him for the Teacher of the year award, for which he was selected from among the top five percent of Outstanding Teacher award recipients.

The U.S. Force helps to sponsor StudentAware's shop-safety program and is the sole sponsor of the Teacher of the year recognition program.

"StudentAware is proud to be associated with the Air Force and extremely pleased it recognizes the outstanding contributions teachers like Mr. Vann make to the youth of America," said Tom Lutes, a vice president with Aware Communications, Inc., StudentAware's parent organization.
