APPLING FAMILY CONNECTION AND ITS PARTNERS BRING YOU…THE INTERACTIVE TEEN MAZE 2012!!

Appling County Family Connection (local churches, agencies, business, law enforcement) and the Appling County School System are pleased to bring you the Interactive Teen Maze!

The Teen Maze is a life-sized interactive “game” that students will advance through by “chance”.  During the Maze the students do not have a choice about the decisions that they “make” regarding sexual involvement or drugs /alcohol use–but rather they will draw cards, roll dice, or spin a wheel to learn the “good or bad news”.  Students who draw cards that say they’ve avoided sexual involvement are “rewarded”; others learn the potential consequences of sex: loss of freedom, medical problems, pregnancy, adoption, abortion (this information will be provided by We Care Crisis Pregnancy center staff), STD’s, and possibly death from HIV/AIDS.  We will also have potential consequences from drinking at a party such as arrest, jail, probation, or death from drinking and driving.  Since paths are randomly assigned, no two students will have the same experience (much as in real life!). In this game, students are victims of chance and must experience whatever happens to them-but, of course, in real life they have choices to make!

This event is designed to heighten awareness and provoke thought regarding some important decisions that our students have to make.  Students will be encouraged to learn from their peers’ experiences in the Maze and to discuss their experiences with their parents.  The goal is graduation with an abstinence and no alcohol/drugs message throughout!!!

Please allow your student to participate in this event provided free to your student through community collaboration! We have over 70 volunteers per day helping with this event!

We will only be open until 4:00pm each day! We will be targeting 8th and 10th grades again this year! 8th grade on 2/21 and 10th grade on 2/22.

Please support this event which has great evaluation results reported by students, staff and our volunteers. We will have parent preview night on 2/20 from 5:00pm to 5:45pm.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact Amy Rediger, Executive Director of Family Connection at 367-8816.
