Julia Corneila Roberson
Julia Corneila Roberson, age 88 of Baxley who passed away, Monday,
April 27, 2009 at the Pavilion. Mrs. Roberson was a native and
life-long resident of Baxley and had retired as a sales clerk from
Woolworth’s. She was a member of Norwick Baptist Church in
Brunswick. She was preceded in death by her husband Flem Robertson;
two brothers: Cecil and Wilton Sellers; and her parents Isaac and
Pearl Sellers.
She is survived by her two daughters Elaine Enterkin and husband
Doug of Copperas Cove, Texas and Lynnah Jones of Jesup; three
sisters; Linda Altman of Baxley, Betty Beck of Baxley, and Welda
Rush of Jacksonville, Florida; and one brother: Gerald Sellers of
Baxley.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 Thursday at David E. Miles Funeral
Home. The funeral service will be held Friday at 3:00 P.M. in the
chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Williamson
and Reverend Dewitt Corbin officiating. Internment will follow at
Satilla Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are Jeff Altman, Mitch Altman, Larry Rush, J.E.
Roberson, Francicso Saucedo, and Johnny Sellers. Honorary
pallbearers are: Vance Hunter, the Pavilion Nursing Home residents

Lillie Belle Peacock age 78 died Sunday April
29, 2008 in the Appling Healthcare System
Mrs. Peacock was born March 20, 1930 in Jeff
Davis County to the late Joseph Walter Smith and Emma Smith. She was
a member of Red Oak Baptist Church. Mrs. Peacock was preceded in
death by her husband Loys Peacock, Sr. and a son Billy Peacock.
Survivors Include: 2 daughters: Helen Miller of
Hazlehurst & Brenda Kay Murray of Odum Ga; Son: Loys Peacock Jr. of
Denton Ga; Brother: Joseph Andrew Smith of Baxley Ga; 6
Grandchildren : 10 Great Grandchildren: Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in the Appling Healthcare System after a
short illness.
Mr. Carter was born July 25, 1921 in
Appling County to the late Sims Carter and the late Lou Steedley
Carter.
He was retired from Baxley Veneer &
Cleat and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death
by his wife, Ella Mae Sills Lightsey Carter and a daughter, Margene
Lightsey

System
Mrs. Conner was born September 15,
1930 in Appling County to the late Judson Taylor & the late Haley
Davis Taylor. She was a member of Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church and
member
of the Order of Eastern Star Baxley
Chapter # 363 where she served as a past Worthy Matron. She
was also a member of the 1947 & 1948 Appling County High School
State Champion
Basketball Team. She was
preceded in death by her husbands, Bill Craven & James Rufus Conner.
She is survived by 2 daughters &
son-in-law, Mary Sue & David B. Carter, Samantha & Joel Carter all
of Baxley,

Jean Beasley
Betty Jean Beasley age 74, died Friday, April 11,
2008 in Wayne Memorial Hospital. Miss Beasley was born July 24, 1933
in Appling County to the late Phoye Beasley and
late Sallie Mae Thomas Beasley. She was a
member of the Baxley Church of God. She helped raise all of her
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother,
Jimmy Beasley.
Miss Beasley is survived by her sister, Eloise
Taylor of Baxley, Brother, Johnnie Beasley. A host of nieces and
nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 13, 2008
from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home. Rev. David Deen officiated.
Interment followed at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Brownie Joe Lord Bentley, age 74 of Albany, died
Monday, April 21, 2008 Lillian Carter Nursing Home in Plains, Ga.
Mrs. Bentley was born February 4, 1934 in Appling
County to the late Joe Brown Lord and the late Thelma Marie Yawn
Lord. She was of the Baptist Faith and was preceded in death
by her husband,
William Perry Bentley. She is Survived by her
Sister, Virginia Evans of Baxley; 1 brother, Delma Lord of
Greenville, S.C.
The Funeral was held Tuesday, April 22, 2008, from
the Graham United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Ronnie Rentz

Elmer "Babe" Mann died Tuesday April 22, 2008 in the
Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
Mr. Mann was born June 27,1926 in Appling County to
the late David Henry Mann & the late Dovie Blanche Carter Mann. He
was a member & a deacon of Memorial Free Will Baptist Church. Mr.
Mann received Citizen of the year award in 1988 and Book of Golden
Deeds award 1988 & 1989.
Survivors include: His wife Joyce Blanton Mann of
Surrency; 1 daughter & son in law, Marcia & Kenneth Brown of
Surrency; 1 son & daughter in law, Gene & Beth Mann of Surrency; 1
sister, Shirley Priester of Jesup; 3 brothers, Earl Dennis Mann of
Greensboro, N.C., Herman Mann of Orlando, Florida & Robert Mann of
Surrency. 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild & several nieces &
nephews also survive.

John Lee ( J.L.) Harris, Sr.
John Lee ( J.L.) Harris, Sr. age 86 of Bristol
died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at his residence. Mr.
Harris was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County, he was
born September 26, 1921 to the late Hinton Lee Harris and the late
Alief Thornton Harris. Mr. Harris was a member
of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church where he sang in the choir,
was former president of the church's Master's Men Chapter and also
served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was an
honorary member of the Alma Hunting Club were he was active for many
years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S.
Navy in the Pacific theater. Mr. Harris is survived
by his wife, Louise Hilton Harris of Bristol; 2 daughters, Judy H.
Morris of Odum and Sheryl H. Ellis of Jesup; six sons, J. Donald
Harris of Waycross, John L. Harris of Bristol, Ronald H. Harris of
Umatilla, Fl, Gregory Harris and Robert R. Harris both of Bristol;
and S. Douglas Harris of Baxley; 20 grandchildren, 19 Great
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
