Mr. Dudley "D.A." Dean Jr. died Tuesday, January 27, 2009
in the Appling Healthcare System.
Mr. Dean was born January 2, 1933 to the late Dudley
Adonis Dean Sr. and the late Sadie Marie McNeal Dean. He was a
member of Harvest Chapel. Mr. Dean was retired from Bell South
after 37 years of service was a Veteran of United States Army.
Survivors Include: His Wife, Betty Dean of Baxley; 1
daughter, Denise Groth and a step daughter, Jennifer Dubberly; 5
sisters, Carolyn Watson of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Marilyn
Hiers, Sandra Turner, Sonja Crews and Jennifer Snyder all of
Baxley; 1 brother, Randy Dean of West Hampton, N.Y.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 30, 2009 at
2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home.
Ministers: Pastors Randy and Agnes Sellers.
The family will assemble at Betty Dean, 771 Fair Street.

William Clarence (Wilbur) Mincey
William Clarence (Wilbur) Mincey died Saturday, January
24, 2009 at the Hospice of Golden Isles, Brunswick, GA.
Mr. Mincey was a member of the First United Methodist
Church in Brunswick, GA and was previously a member of the First
United Methodist Church and Trinity Sunday School Class of
Baxley for 50 years.
Survivors Include: His wife, Ailene Beach Mincey of
Brunswick; two daughters: Diana (John) Watkins of Macon,
Elizabeth (Phillip) Corbitt of Brunswick; three grandchildren;
Emily C. (Ryan) Gleaton of Brunswick, Erin Corbitt of
Jacksonville, Fla., and Erick Watkins of Macon, GA; one great
granddaughter, Ella Claire Gleaton; Several Cousins, nieces and
nephews, many friends and his beloved Dachshund, Muffin.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at
11:00 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church. He will lie
in state for one hour prior to the funeral.
Interment: Baxley Graveyard Cemetery at Friendship

Cheryl Grey Godfrey Miles
Cheryl Grey Godfrey Miles died Friday, January 23, 2009 at
her residence after an extended illness.
Mrs. Miles was born November 25, 1943 in Appling County to
the late Robert Lyon Godfrey and Lillie Grey Godfrey. She was a
member of Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church and a member of the
Baxley Shrine Ladies Auxillary. She was a lifelong seamstress.
Survivors Include: Her husband, Phillip Miles of Baxley;
two daughters: Sharon Foster and Debbie Segui Harrell both of
Baxley; two sisters: Linda Joy Godfrey Townsend of Hazlehurst;
Janice Faye Godfrey of Jacksonville, Fla; two brothers: John
(Kathy) Godfrey and James (Sallie) Godfrey both of Baxley; four
grandchildren: Diane Elizabeth Foster, Amanda Leigh Holton,
Elizabeth Lillie Marie Grey Segui, Andrew Phillip Segui all of
Baxley; Sever nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bragen was born February 1, 1955 in Campbell County
to the late Delbert Breeden and the late Corrine Stephens
Breeden. She was preceded in death by her Father in law, Billy
Bragan Sr.
Survivors Include: Her husband Billy Bragan of Baxley; 1
daughter, Danielle Howard of Melbourne, KY; 2 Sons Mike Howard
of Highland Heights, KY and Billy Bragan, III of Baxley; Sisters
Ronda Androwski of Cincinnati, Ohio and Carolyn Howard of Hyden,

Mrs. Lucille Campbell died Tuesday, January 12, 2009 in
the Lumber City Nursing and Rehab.
Mrs. Campbell was born February 18, 1924 in Appling County
to the late Ocie Walter Lamb and the late Alma Bishop Lamb. She
was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church. Mrs. Campbell was
preceded in death by her husband, Willie Benjamin Campbell.
Survivors Include: One daughter and son in law, Debra and
Tony Pearson of Leland, N.C.; 3 sons and daughters in law, Bill
and Henrietta Campbell, Nick and Janie Campbell all of Baxley
and Rex and Pat Campbell of Warner Robins; 2 sisters, Eunice
Swinson of Gloverville, S.C. and Laverne Courson of Baxley. 10
grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Wilton Glenn Hallman
Mr. Wilton Glenn Hallman died Saturday, January 10, 2009
at St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital in Savannah.
Mr. Hallman was born in Toombs County to the late Wilton
Lavern (Bill) Hallman and the late Ruby Youmans Hallman. He was
a member of Riverside Baptist Church and the owner of Hallman
Construction for the past 29 years.
Survivors Include: his wife, Marie Sikes Hallman; son,
Glenn Adam Hallman; daughter and son in law, Amy and Glen
McDaniel, all of Baxley; 3 sisters and brothers in law, Bonnie
and Roy Lewis, and Donna and Elton Carter all of Baxley and
Hilda Douglas of Savannah; 4 granddaughters, Ashlie, Harley,
Brook, and Courtney McDaniel, all of Baxley; several nieces and
nephews also survive.

Betty Ruth Baxley Jenkins
Mrs. Betty Ruth Baxley Jenkins died January 9, 2009 in the
Appling Healthcare System.
Mrs. Jenkins was born October 13, 1936 in Appling County
to the late Olen J. Baxley and the late Nora Branch Baxley. She
was a member of Inwood Baptist Church and Edmond Deaf Chapel.
Mrs. Jenkins attended Georgia School for the deaf in Cave
Springs, Georgia. She was preceded in death by a daughter,
Barbara Rowell and a sister, Joan Baxley.
Survivors Include: her husband, Michael Jenkins of Baxley;
two daughters and sons in law, Joy Davis and Angus of Hahira and
Helen Smith and James of Bartow, Fl; son and daughter in law,
Kenneth and Tammy Smith of Baxley; two sisters and brothers in
law, Jeannette and Wilton Baxley of Baxley and Lynda and Gene
Womble of Snellville; one brother and sister in law, M.H. and
Wilma Baxley of Baxley. 9 Grandchildren, 22 Great Grandchildren
and 14 nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Daniels was born February 9, 1918 in Appling County
to the late Seaton Randall Harden and the late Kizzie Elizabeth
Leggett Harden. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
Survivors Include: One daughter, Margaret Coleman of
Guyton; Five Sons, David Daniels of Burton, S.C., James Dainels
and Wayne Daniels both of Surrency, Jesse Daniels of Baxley and
Johnny Daniels of Jesup; Three sisters, Emma Nell Thompson of
Beaufort, S.C., Minnie Blanton of Baxley and Peggy Morris of
Archdale, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews also survive.

Thigpen Gay
Mrs. Sabra Thigpen Gay died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in
the Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia.
Mrs. Gay was born October 30, 1933 in Treutlen County to
the late Sam Jones Thigpen and the late Thelma Louise Skinner
Thigpen. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she
was active in the Ladies Club. Mrs. Gay each year made afghans
and Christmas baskets for the residents in the Nursing Home. She
was preceded in death by her daughter in law, Sharon "Pixie" Gay
and a granddaughter, Rita Nicole Gay.
Survivors Include: Her husband, Buddy Gay of Baxley; Four
sons and daughters in law, Gary and Teenie Gay of Dublin, Neal
and Donna Gay of Wrightsville, Dale and Gail Gay and Glenn and
Kim Gay all of Baxley; Sister, Janet Hutcheson of Baxley; five
grandchildren, six great grandchildren, several nieces and
nephews and special friends, Duaine and Zella Mae Waters.

Southeast Georgia Health System after an extended illness.
Mrs. Hall was born on January 10, 1948 in Bulloch County
to the late Zack Roston Mincey and the late Wilma Shumans Mincey.
She was a Homemaker and was preceded in death by a son, Benji
Mincey and two grandsons Stacy Carter and Chris Turner.
Survivors Include: her husband James Hall of Alma; 3
daughters and sons in law, Joyce and Ronnie Turner, Jane Morris
and Janet and Curtis Forehand all of Baxley; 2 Sons, Jamie Hall
and Samantha Swain of Baxley and Dane Mincey of Borden, IN;
Sister, Delane Allen of Baxley; brother, James W. Williams of

Mrs. Mary Nell O'Farrell Garrett, wife of the late Rev.
Hilton Charles Garrett, Sr., passed away on January 2, 2009 at
her home at 703 Talon CT., Evans, GA. Mrs. Garrett was the
daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Zuell Colon O'Farrell of
Baxley, GA, former administrator of the Georgia Baptist
Children's Home, Baxley, GA.
She is survived by her children, Hilton Charles Garrett,
Jr., Atlanta, GA, Louise Garrett Gentry, Carrollton, GA, Reena
Sue Garrett Crews, Martinez, GA, Winifred B. Garrett (Tom) and
David C. Crews (Ruth), 12 grandchildren, 2 great daughters,
Grace O'Farrell Bostic, sister, Waycross, GA, Janelle Garrett
Carnes, sister-in-law, Bradenton, FL. Many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Garrett was born in Casper, Wyoming, May 13, 1922
where her father served in the ministry prior to relocating to
Florida and Georgia to continue his work.
Memorial Service will be at First Baptist Church, 3500
Walton Way, Augusta, GA on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, 11:30 am

GA on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 11:30 am. Visitation at 10:30

following at Omega Cemetery.
Mrs. Garrett dedicated her life to God's service with her
late husband, serving various churches and mission boards in
Georgia and Missouri, actively involved in numerous church
activities while raising 5 children.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be
made to the Benevolence Committee, First Baptist Church,
Augusta, GA.

Gloria Faye Thornton died Friday, January 2, 2009 at
her residence.
Gloria Faye Thornton was born on May 20, 1957 in Appling County
to the late Mrs. Odell Williams Thornton and Mr. Evans Thornton.
She was a member of Carters Chapel and was preceded in death by
her sister Mary Francis Thornton. She brought joy and happiness
to everyone she met. Faye believed in the lord and prayers. She
showed the world that miracles do happen.
Survivors Include: Sister, Oline (Mann) Eason; Brothers,
Kenneth (Nancy) Thornton, Bobby (Darlene) Thornton, William
Harold (Iris) Thornton, Alton (Ann) Thornton, Frank Thornton and
Hilda Harbor, Ronnie (Molly) Thornton, Donnie (Randi) Thornton;
A host of nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and
great-great nieces and nephews.
