James "Jimmy" Gordon Miles
James “ Jimmy” Gordon Miles,
age 60, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 in the Memorial Medical
Center in Savannah. He was a native of Bacon County and had resided
in Baxley for most of his life. He was a farmer and a member of
Hopewell Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States
Army and was the son of the late Hyman C. Miles and the late Julia
D. Gruber Miles. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bob
Jones.
He is survived by his
wife, Frankie Miles of Baxley: a son and daughter-in-law, James and
Brenda Miles of Baxley: two daughters and son’s-in-law, Denise and
Stephen Rabun of Augusta: Donna and Ray Sapp of Waynesboro: two
step-sons and daughter’s-in-law, Michael and Tammy Higgs of Lyons
and Kevin and Vicki Higgs of Odum: a sister Diane Jones of Moultrie
: eleven grandchildren also survive.
Visitation will be
from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of David E. Miles
Fuenral Home.
Funeral services will
be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Hopewell Methodist Church with Rev.
Creig Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Hopewell
Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are
Stephen Gambrell, Chris Aycock, Corey Aycock, J. R. Fulford, Henry
Morris, Tommy Duncan, and Calvin Morris.
Honorary pallbearers
are all friends in attendance.
Mr. Miles will be
placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral service to lie in
state.
The family will
assemble at the residence of his son, James Miles, 1164 Lynch Road.

Claxton
Polly Claxton age 75 of Baxley passed away
Wednesday, June 27, 2007 in the Satilla Regional Medical Center in
Waycross. Ms. Claxton was a native of Taylor County but she
had lived most of her life in Appling County. She was a Member
of Faith Baptist Church and she was a wonderful wife, mother,
grandmother, and great grandmother. She was preceded in death
by a sister, Alice Pitts, and a brother, Johnny Avery.
Survivors include her husband Earl Claxton of Baxley; daughter,
Dianne Claxton of Nashville, TN; son and daughter in law Tim and
Cindy Claxton of Baxley; granddaughter Kristen and husband, Charlie
Griffin, of Waycross, grandson Toby & wife, Heather Claxton of
Baxley; great grandson Riley Claxton & great granddaughter Trinity
Claxton; niece Patsy and husband James Smart of Alma & several other
nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be Friday
evening from 7 until 9 pm at Swain Funeral Home. Funeral
services will be held Saturday, June 30 at 11:oo from Faith Baptist
Church. The family will assemble at the residence 894 Dyal Road.

Lawton Morris "Pete" Norton, Sr.
Lawton Morris "Pete" Norton, Sr age
77 of Baxley passed away Friday, June 22, 2007 at his
residence after an extended illness. Mr. Norton was born March 1,
1930 in Appling County to the late Jones Lee Norton & the late Edna
Lucille Morris Burke. He was a member of Asbury United
Methodist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was
retired from Bax-Steel with over 30 years of service. He is
survived by 2 daughters; Mary Carol Miller of Douglas & Barbara
Upchurch of Ballground: 3 Sons Morris Norton, Jr. of Douglas, and
Ross Norton of Baxley and Steve Mesimer of Atlantic Beach, Florida.
8 Grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be Sunday
June 25, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. from Asbury United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 24 from 7:00 until 9:00 at Swain
Funeral Home. Remembrances may be made to the Asbury United

Janice Elizabeth Hardee, age 47 of Baxley, passed
away Thursday, June 21, 2007 at Memorial Health University
Center in Savannah. A native and lifelong resident of Appling
County. She was born December 11, 1959. Mrs. Hardee was a member
of Melton's Chapel Methodist Church and was employed by the
Appling Board of Education. She was preceded in death by her
mother, Floried Hand Sellers. Survivors include her husband,
Cliff Hardee, 2 Daughters; Nicole & Jessie Hardee. 1 Son;
Nicholas Hardee, Father, David Sellers all of Baxley. 1 sister &
brother-in-law; Joan and Dr. David Cundey of Aiken, SC.;
Brother, Johnny Sellers of Baxley. Sister in Law & brother in
Law; Jody & Michael McDaniel; Brothers in law, Clyde Hardee &
Gary Hardee; 6 Nieces and 4 Nephews also survive. Active
Pallbearers; Mike McDaniel, Nick Hardee, Dave Sellers, Johnny
Sellers, Gary Hardee & Clyde Hardee. Minister's: Rev. Karen
Zeigler & Rev. Bernie Khaw. Funeral Services will be held
Sunday, June 24th, at 4:00pm from the Chapel of Swain Funeral

Lewis Cranford, age 67 of Baxley passed away Tuesday, June 5,
2007 in the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross. Mrs.
Cranford was born January 6, 1940 in Bacon County to the late
Andrew Benjamin Lewis and the late Zilpha Johnson Lewis. She was
a member of the First Baptist Church and the Queen Esther Sunday
School Class. She was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin
Lewis and sister, Mary Ruth Lewis. Survivors include her
Husband, B.C. Cranford Jr. of Baxley; 3 daughters, Janet Brown,
Rhonda Hurst, and Denise Rentz all of Baxley; 1 son, Glynn
Cranford of Macon; 1 sister, Virginia Hutcheson of Rincon; 1
brother, Brady Lewis of Alma; 7 grandchildren, Jason Hurst,
Garrett Cranford, Stephen brown, Ben Hurst, Katie Cranford, Sam
Rentz and Cydney Rentz. Honorary Pallbearers: Queen Esther
Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Velma Stone, Linda
Brooks and all friends in attendance. Active Pallbearers are

Thomas, 92, of Macon passed away Monday, June 4, 2007 in
Embracing Hospice in Snellville, GA. Mrs. Thomas was born March
23, 1915 in Appling County to the late George W. Turner & the
late Henriette Troup Turner. She was a member of Tabernacle
Baptist church. Young at Heart & Adult 13 Sunday school class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse C. Thomas & a
son, Jesse C. Thomas, Jr. Survivors include a daughter & son in
law, Lois H. & James B. Woodring of Lilburn. Son &
Daughter in law, Elijah M. "tom" & Sandra Thomas of Macon; 10
Grandchildren & 10 Great Great grandchildren, several nieces &
nephews. Active Pallbearers are Jimmy Woodring, Chase Amya,
Lamar Turner, Jeffrey Turner, Woody Holland & Brian Wagner.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 11:00am
from Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Mrs. Thomas will lie in state

Gladys Whitted Lightsey, age 86,
of Baxley passed away on Wednesday, June 06, 2007 at her
residence. Mrs. Lightsey was born February 28, 1921 in
Sevierville County, TN to the late Miles Whitted and the late
Pearl Reagan Whitted. She was a member of Dunn Memorial
Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth
Vernon Lightsey and a daughter, Eleanor Lightsey Turner.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Peggy Lightsey McIntyre, Shirley
Lightsey Deen both of Baxley & Peachy Lightsey Herrin of Jesup.
2 sisters, Ruby W. Atkins of Moncks Corner, SC & Helen W. Booth

White, age 82, of Baxley passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2007 in
the Appling Healthcare System. Mrs. White was born
February 26, 1925 in Appling County to the late Jewell Dunn &
the late Bernice Crosby Dunn. She was active in the
Concerted Services. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Lowell Edward "Mutt" White, a sister, Merlene Hughes
Kelley & three brothers, Norman Dunn, W.R. Dunn & James Dunn.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Phyllis Hall of Baxley & Sabra
Roberts of Willacoochee; 3 sons, Robert Newton White, Lowell
Edward White both of Baxley, Drew Herrington of Hazlehurst, and
a special nephew Jim Edd White of Riverdale; 2 sisters, Adele
Miller of Graham, Bertie Holton Crosby of Hazlehurst; 2
brothers, Charles Mac Dunn of Baxley & James Dunn of Hazlehurst.
13 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren also survive.

Ruth Miller
Ruth Miller, age 60, died
Saturday June 9, 2007 in the Appling Health Care after a short
illness. She was born September 12, 1946 in Wayne County and had
resided in Baxley most of her life. She was employed by the Appling
County Board of Education for the past 17 years as a school bus
driver. She was a member of the Bethel Free Will Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the Rev. Wilford Harden and the late Wanell
Altman Harden.
She is survived by
her husband, William “Doc” Miller of Baxley: a daughter and
son-in-law, Kimberly and Wayne Branch of Baxley: two sons and a
daughter-in-law, Dwayne Roddenberry of Hazlehurst and James and
Glenda Roddenberry of Irvington, GA: Father and step-mother, Rev.
Wilford and Dottie Harden of Glennville: brother and sister-in-law
Junior and Betty Harden of Waynesboro: a step-sister Uvonne
Tillman of Surrency: eight grandchildren and one great grandchild
also survive.
Funeral services
were held Monday, June 11, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. from the Bethel
Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Taylor, Rev. Stephen Windham
and Rev. M. L. Rick officiating. Interment followed in the Satilla
Baptist Church Cemetery.

were Allen Spikes, Gary Spikes, Stewart Campbell, Dewey Altman,
Donald Bellew, Durwin Griffin, Charlie Branch, Charles Branch and
Randy Medders.

Daniel F.
Pinholster, Sr. of Cartersville, GA age 85 died Saturday, June 16,
2007 in Cartersville after an extended illness.
Mr. Pinholster
was born November 25, 1921 in Tattnall County to the late James
Henry & Elisabeth Parker Pinholster. He was a member of First United
Methodist Church, the VFW and was a Mason. He was a veteran of World
War II having Severing in the United States Air Force.
Survivors included:
daughter and son in law, Martha Elizabeth & Tony Cook of Newnan; son
& daughter in law, Dan & Paula Pinholster of Cartersville; sister,
Dorothy Belote of Macon; brother, Garland Pinholster of Ballground;
3 grandchildren, Tonya Hall, Danielle Cook, & Cathy Pinholster; 2
great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in
death by his wife, Melissa Altman Pinholster.
Funeral services
will be held Tuesday, June 19, at 11:00 A.M. from the Chapel of
Swain Funeral Home. Minister: Rev. Rick Brown. Interment will follow
in the Corinth Cemetery.
