Edith Agnes Bayer

  Edith Agnes Bayer, age 83, of Baxley, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007 in the Appling Convalescence center. Mrs. Bayer was born September 29, 1923 in Pennsylvania to the late Lewis W. Wagner & the late Edith Agnes Dimaline Wagner. She was of the First United Methodist Church and was the first designated life time member of the hospital auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis  Ward Bayer & a son, Edward Lewis Bayer. Survivors include 2 sons & a daughter in Law, Cliff Bayer of Baxley & Francis & Kathy Bayer of Strounds Burg. P.A. 5 Grandchildren & 5 Great Grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held Monday, June 4, 2007 at 4:00pm from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home. Rev. Alan Miller chosen minister.

Mr. Jack Lewis

    Mr. Jack Lewis, age 71 of Baxley, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the Appling Healthcare system after an extended illness.  Mr. Lewis was born December 24, 1935 in Thomasville, Ga. to the late John Miles Lewis & the late Eula Dee Weldon Lewis. He had lived in Appling County for the past 60 years and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and was retired from the United States Post Office & was a charter member of the Appling Co. Country club. He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Lewis. Survivors include his wife, Valeria G. Lewis of Baxley; son & daughter in law, Lindsey K. & Jill Lewis of Kennesaw; 2 sisters & brother in law, Mike & Angie Lewis of Alston and Kevin & Tammy Lewis of Baxley; 3 Grandchildren, Kathryn Lewis, Andrew Lewis, & Abigail Lewis all of Kennesaw; several nieces & nephews also survive. Active Pallbearers are Kale Lewis, Tim Varnadore, Rodney G. Carter, Shane Reeves, Brent Lewis, and Tommy Phillips. Interment will be at Ten Mile creek Baptist Church Cemetery.  Ministers are Pastor Lindsey Lewis, Pastor Brad Park, & Pastor Rick Brown. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24, 2007 at 3:00pm from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 23, 2007 from 6-8pm at Swain Funeral Home. Remembrances may be made to the American cancer society, 515 Denmark St. Suite 500, Statesboro, GA 30458. The family will assemble at the residence, 150 Holmesville Ave.

James Edward Rowell

             James Edward Rowell, age 40 of Baxley, died Sunday May 13, 2007 In the Appling Healthcare System after a Brief illness. He was born December 6, 1966 to Edward & Lanell Watts Rowell. He resided in Baxley in which he was born and raised. He was a member of midway Baptist Church. He was co-owner & co-operator of RBI Services Electrician. He was as avid sport man and thoroughly enjoyed hunting & fishing with his longtime best friend, Jeff Lashley. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and most importantly spending time with family & close friends.  Survivors included: one daughter, Tiffany Nichole Rowell of Hazlehurst; Two sons, Gregory D. Mano & James Caleb Googe both of Baxley; Fiancé, Angle Jenkins & her three children, Hunter, Memphis, & Skyler all of Baxley; Parents, Edward & Lanell Rowell of Baxley; One brother & sister in law, Ronald T. & Amy Rowell of Baxley; Nephew, Walker T. Rowell & a niece, Amberly  Rentz both of Baxley. Active Pallbearers: Wade Howard, Dennis Jenkins, Kevin Green, Kelly Silas, Eric Squires & Tony Adams. Honorary pallbearers: Harry & Sue Edge, Milton & Gail Coleman, Kim Stone, Bo Herndon, Wiley Thornton, J.W. Murray, Jerome & Joni Murray, Anthony Horne & all friends in attendance. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home. Ministers: Rev. Charles Hutcheson. Interment: Altamaha Baptist Church Cemetery.

Marion Leonard Sellers

Marion Leonard Sellers, age 85 of Baxley died Monday, May 14, 2007 at Appling Convalescent Center after a brief illness. He was born November 24, 1921 in Bacon County to the late Sammie Jackson Sellers & the late Mary Roland Sellers. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and served in the United States Army as a Private. He was retired from FRP as a Plant Operator. Mr. Sellers was preceded in death by his wives, Vera Bohannon Sellers & Ora Lee Rentz Sellers; Daughters, Betty Shelton, Patricia Barber; Brothers, Earnest Sellers & Alvin Sellers. Survivors Included: 2 daughters & son in law, Lavern & Wayne Blanton of Brunswick & Sara Sellers of Baxley; 2 sons & daughters in law, J.L. & Genell Sellers of Brunswick & James & Martha Sellers of Baxley; 15 Grandchildren, 29 Great Grandchildren & Great-Great Grandchildren. Active pallbearers: Steve Roland, Eric Pfau, Warren Pfau, Brian Perry, Randall Kersey & Roger Brown. Honorary pallbearers: Appling Convalescent Center Staff, Friends & Dr. Orlando Fernando. Funeral Services were held Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home. Ministers: Rev. Dannie Hix & Rev. Andrew Kersey.

William Homer Youmans

      William Homer Youmans, 81 of Appling, Died Sunday, May 20, 2007 in Appling Healthcare System. Mr. Youmans was born April 10, 1926 in Appling to the late William Homer Youmans, Sr. and the late Maybell Carter Youmans. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He was former owner of Youmans 66 and was a retired farmer. Mr. Youmans served in the United States Army and was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Deen Youmans.  Survivors include 2 sons & daughter in law. Donald Youmans & Tommy & Debra Youmans all of Baxley; 1 sister & brother in law, Louise & J.C. Scarborough of Baxley; Grandchildren,  Shane & Kendra Youmans, Bryan Youmans, Samuel Youmans & Hannah Youmans, 2 Great grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers: All Family & Friends in Attendance. Active Pallbearers: Greg Thomas, Keith Thomas, Danny Scarborough, Jim Blanton, Eddie Deen, & Stanley Scarborough. Interment at Asbury Church Cemetery. Minister: Richard Scarborough.  Funeral services will be Monday, May 21, 2007 at 4:00pm from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home. Annie L. Kilpatrick

Annie L. Kilpatrick. age 89, died Wednesday in Community Hospice of Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.  She was a native of Appling County and had resided in Callahan and Jacksonville for 67 years  .  She was a Cosmetologist and was a member of First Baptist Church in Gray Gables, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey C. Kilpatrick, Sr. and a  son David Kilpatrick. 

      She is survived by two daughters, Mary Kilpatrick Lucas of Callahan, FL and Becky Kilpatrick/Jens (Karl) of Jacksonville, FL: four sons, Harvey C. Kilpatrick, Jr (Donna). and James Kilpatrick (Judy)  of Jacksonville, FL, Stephen Kilpatrick (Marilyn) and Daniel Kilpatrick of Callahan, FL: eighteen grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren also survive.

      Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Funeral Home.

      Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday in the Chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Woodard.  Interment will follow in the Baxley Graveyard.

      Active pallbearers are Lewis Kilpatrick, Paul Copeland, Bill Forbis, Austin Kilpatrick, Lee Davis and Jason Kilpatrick.

      Musical selections will be  rendered by Rev. Mike Woodard.

Billy J. Shuemake

     Billy J. Shuemake, age 37, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 in the Appling Healthcare System. He was born July 12, 1969 in Bacon County . He was a carpenter and was employed by Raven Lewis.  He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. He was proceeded in death by a sister, Dorothy Louise Shuemake. He was the son of Lydia Gaskins Shuemake and the late Elbert Bryant.

      He is survived by his wife Vanessa Shuemake of Baxley: his mother Lydia Gaskins Shuemake of Baxley: four daughters, Amber Louise Shuemake, Elizabeth Jane Shuemake and Shelly Jo Shuemake all of Baxley, and Amanda Lynn Shuemake of St. Augustine, Florida: two brothers: Robert Shuemake of Alma, and James Earl Shuemake of Daytona Beach, Florida: Two half-brothers, Willie Gene Bryant of Baxley, and Chris Bryant of Alma, one half-sister Elaine Herrington of Baxley; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews also survived.

       Funeral services were held Friday, May 18, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. in Woodlawn Baptist Church with Reverend Brad Park officiating. Interment followed in the Omega cemetery.

      Active pallbearers are Brian Bryant, Willie Gene Bryant, Chris Bryant, James Moon, Travis  Roberson, and Jerry Harper. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Outreach Sunday School Class of Woodlawn Baptist Church and all  friends and family in attendance.

       Musical Selections were rendered by Dale Spell, Kevin Lewis, Chuck Cartledge, and Cindy Morris.

      Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral.

Ira F. “Shine” Martin

Ira F. “Shine” Martin, age 93, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 in the Bacon County Hospital after a long illness. He was born July 19, 2007 in Appling County and had lived here for most of his life.  He was retired from the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home where he was employed as a farmer, and had also worked as self employed mechanic. He was of the Baptist Faith.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Willingham Martin and a son, Fred Martin.  He was the son of the late Babe Martin and the late Fannie Miles Martin.

      He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and John Langdale of Warner Robins, GA.: a son, Gerald Hawkins of Baxley: a half-sister, Dollie Cornelius of Belvedere, IL: 5grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren also survive.

      Funeral services were held Thursday, May 24, at 11:00 a.m.  in the Chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Rev. David Amburgey officiating.  Interment followed in the Red Oak Church Cemetery.

      Active pallbearers were Walter Crosby, George M. Crosby, Steve Crosby, Tim Williams, Aubry Lynch, Jeremy Clark and Dale Lynch. Honorary pallbearers are all friends attending the funeral service.

      In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Heart Association, 7130 Hodgson Memorial Dr. Suite 101, Savannah, Ga. 31406.

      Musical selections were rendered by David Williams.

      Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.

Scott Courson

Scott Courson, age 38, died Wednesday, May 30,2007 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Pauldin County, Georgia.  He was born July 26, 1968 in Alma, Georgia and had lived in Baxley for most of his life. He was a carpenter and a member of the Carpenters and Millrights Local #256.  He attended Woodlawn Baptist Church.

      He is survived by two son’s, Dustin Courson of Baxley and Cody Fennell of Baxley: mother and father, John and Linda Courson of Baxley: sister, Becky Lord of Baxley: special friend, Charlotte Goins and her daughter, Ashley Goins both of Baxley: three uncles, Timothy Courson and Stephen Courson both of Baxley and Robert Allen Carter of Orange Park, FL: aunt, Lynn Lowe of Hendersonville, TN: two nieces Katy Lewis and Jessica Lord of Baxley: Nephew, Matthew Lord of Baxley and great niece Jaydin Lewis of Baxley.

      Funeral services were held Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Park, Philip Worthington and Jeffery Johnson officiating.  Interment followed in the Omega Cemetery.

      Active pallbearers were Bobby Carter, Jamie Carter, Eddie Jackson, Jimmy Jackson, Dennis Morgan and Billy Overstreet.

      Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Lord, Wayne Lord, Phil Cannon, Josh Breedlove, Kelly Teston, Michael Woodard, Allen Music, Gary Evans and Anthony Lewis.

      Musical selections were rendered by Lynn Lowe and Morgan Lowe.

      Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.
